Uncle Murda’s music was presented to Jay-Z by his manager and DJ Green Lantern in 2007. He was quickly signed to Roc-A-Fella Records by the Brooklyn-born rapper/CEO. They quickly began promoting him by putting him on a track with popular label mates Fabolous and Jay-Z for the song “Brooklyn” (off the album From Nothin’ to Somethin’), and everything seemed to be going well for the rapper. However, in late 2008, there were speculations that Uncle Murda had quit Def Jam.
Uncle Murda confirmed the allegations that he had split from Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella Records in an interview with DJ Vlad, alleging that everything has gone downhill since Jay-departure. Murda secured a deal with 50 Cent and G-Unit Records on November 8, 2016.

Uncle Murda was shot in the head while in a parked automobile on Linden Blvd. in East New York on January 22, 2008, but escaped major injury. Murda would later contradict himself, claiming that he was only grazed by a gunshot or struck by a shard of glass. The incident occurred shortly after the rapper’s mixtape “Respect the Shooter” was published. With the bullet still lodged in his head, he left the hospital less than 24 hours after being hospitalized.
After the incident, Uncle Murda called Wendy Williams’ nationally syndicated radio show, The Wendy Williams Experience, and told her he was taking “Hennessy and Newports to cope with the grief.” Uncle Murda refused to assist with authorities, blaming the police for the incident, therefore no charges were filed.
